BMW starts production of new M5 at Plant Dingolfing

BMW M has announced that it has started production of the new M5, just days after the car was officially revealed.
The new high-performance sedan is being built at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing and is now being powered for the first time by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. This drivetrain makes use of a 4.4-litre V8 engine and an electric motor and 18.6kWh battery to deliver a system total of 717bhp and an electric-only range of 69km.
BMW states that the central components for the M5 are produced on site or supplied by nearby component plants, so its chassis, for example, comes with Dingolfing component plant 02.10, while the car's high-voltage battery is assembled next door at plant 02.20, the Competence Centre for E-Drive Production. The carbon fibre roof of the car is supplied by the plant in Landshut, located 30km away.
The new BMW M5 is assembled alongside the BMW 5 Series, BMW 4 Series and BMW M4 on the same production line. BMW states that Plant Dingolfing will see a gradual ramp up to produce several dozen examples of the BMW M5 per day. The car is set to launch in European markets come 2 November 2024, by which time the new BMW M5 Touring would have already made its premiere.
