BMW trials new 'motionless' wind energy system

The MINI plant in Oxford is getting a new addition - the plant has installed what is described as the U.K.'s first "motionless" wind energy system, generating clean electric energy without visible moving parts.
This new innovative energy project is part of the BMW Startup Garage, a business unit dedicated to supporting early-stage startups working on cutting-edge technologies. The wind energy system, meanwhile, has been designed by Aeromine Technologies and makes use of vertical airfoils that create a vacuum effect, drawing air behind an internal propeller to generate clean electricity.
The innovative system is said to minimise noise and vibrations, so it offers minimal disturbance to the buildings it is installed atop, or to the local avian wildlife. The system is additionally constructed from highly durable, recyclable materials, helping support the BMW Group's commitment to put sustainability at the centre of its strategic direction.
BMW Group's Oxford Plant is currently serving as a testbed for this cutting-edge technology, which, if proven successful, could be applied across BMW Group sites around the world, as well as atop other commercial buildings in the U.K.
