The second round of bidding for June saw Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums climbing for Cat A and B while those for Cat E slipped.
Car buying interest looks to have stayed relatively unchanged through the month of June. While premiums did indeed climb for Cat A and B, the total number of bids submitted this session for Cat A is actually lower compared to the last two months while the total number of bids for both Cat B and E has stayed on par with the average for the last few months. This session is the first session in 2024 that has seen the total number of bids submitted for Cat C fall below the 300 mark.

Cat A COE - Climbing back upwards
Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp or electric vehicles with a power output of up to 110kW, climbed upwards this session after seeing three consecutive sessions where premiums continued to slip. This session saw premiums for the category climbing by a total of $2,689 (3.1%) to reach $90,889.
The current premium now stands at just 0.2% below the 12-month trailing average. The total number of number of bids submitted exceeded the number of successful bids this round by 45%, lower than the 12-month average of 53% for the category.
Cat B COE - Bouncing back from last session's fall
Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc or electric vehicles with a power output of more than 110kW, are once again on the rise after last session's slip. This session saw premiums climb by $1,727 (1.7%) to reach $102,334. With the exception of last session, premiums for the category have been climbing since March 2024.
This climb takes current premiums for the category to 11.5% below the 12-month trailing average. The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 55%. This is higher than the 12-month average figure for the category of 54%.
Cat C COE - Taking a slip
Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, slipped this session by $689 (1.0%) to close at $69,900. The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 36%, significantly lower than the 12-month average for this category of 75%.
Cat E COE - Still heading downwards
Premiums for Cat E, the open category, also slipped this session, falling by a total of $1,600 (1.6%) to reach $100,000.
Current premiums for the category are now 15.6% below the 12-month trailing average. The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 70%. This is lower than the 12-month average figure for the category of 80%
Prevailing Quota Premium
The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
