LTA has recently announced that it will add 10 more electric buses to its active fleet from December 2024 onwards.
The new buses will be deployed on services 86, 107, and 159, and use the new charging infrastructure at the new Sengkang West Bus Depot, the first multi-storey bus depot to support large-scale deployment of electric buses.
These are the first of 360 electric buses LTA procured in November 2023 from BYD (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Cycle & Carriage Automotive to replace its diesel buses that are nearing their lifespan. LTA also triggered an option under BYD's contract for an additional 60 buses, bringing the total amount to 420.
To achieve its target of a 100% cleaner energy public bus fleet by 2040, LTA plans to convert half its fleet by 2030, and will be procuring more than 2,000 electric buses over the next five years.
