Presumably not wanting to be outdone when it comes to the bespoke game, Rolls-Royce has now unveiled a new one-of-one Phantom Extended that pays homage to the Goldfinger film, following on the heels of this Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition.
The special Phantom is said to take its inspiration from the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville owned by the eponymous villain of the film, Auric Goldfinger, and mirrors its special exterior yellow hue. This is paired with a unique 'long-side' two-tone design that wraps around the motor car's generous coachwork as a single, uninterrupted graphic, alongside 21-inch disc wheels which are finished in Black with silver 'floating' hubcaps - a touch also inspired by the 1937 motor car as seen in the film.
The special Phantom Extended also gets a Spirit of Ecstasy that appears to be made from solid gold, concealed with a silver coat - a reference to the motion picture's plot. This Spirit of Ecstasy has been made from solid silver which was skilfully gold-plated with 18-carat gold, as it is not possible to silver-plate gold.
In its cabin, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger features a hidden vault in its centre console, used to house an illuminated solid 18-carat gold bar, shaped as a Phantom 'Speedform' - a stylised representation of the motor car’s design in miniature. The car also gets the base of its front and rear centre consoles, as well as the inside of its glovebox lined with a gold finish, with the latter also debossed with Goldfinger's iconic quote, "This is Gold, Mr. Bond. All my life, I have been in love with its colour, its brilliance, its divine heaviness."
These pair with the car's air vents and organ stops, which come with a gold finish. The car's treadplates are also designed to look like the gold bars and feature Goldfinger.
But what will capture the attention is its Bespoke artwork, which features a hand-drawn artistic isoline map of the contours of the Furka Pass, the road in which 007 followed Auric Goldfinger to his smelting plant in the Swiss Alps. A Bespoke clock surround features at the centre of this artwork, inspired by the instantly recognisable 'gun barrel' sequence which has been featured in every James Bond film since Dr. No (1962).
And up top, the car also makes a nod to the Furka Pass scene with a Starlight Headliner designed to perfectly reflect the constellations as they were positioned over the Furka Pass on 11 July 1964 – the last day of filming the scene in Switzerland. This headliner features a total of 719 stars, which glow with a subtle gold hue.
The special Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger come with the 'AU 1' British numberplate which graced the Goldfinger Phantom III in the film, and has now been delivered to a significant Rolls-Royce client and collector based in England.
