Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed the new Transporter.
Now measuring in at 5,050mm long (146mm longer than the T6.1) and with a wheelbase that has been extended by 97mm, this new Transporter is able to carry more cargo than before.
Volkswagen states that the vehicle's increased dimensions mean the stowage volume of versions with this regular wheelbase now totals in at 5,800 litres. Pick the versions with the long wheelbase (which comes in with a further 400mm increase) and high roof, meanwhile, and you'll be able to pack in a maximum of 9,000 litres of cargo.
The load compartment length of the Volkswagen Transporter now totals in at 2,602mm (3,002mm for the long wheelbase variant), and with a maximum width of 1,392mm between the wheel housings, mean the van can easily transport Euro pallets.
The Volkswagen Transporter will be available as a panel van (which is purely dedicated to the transport of goods aft of the first row of seats), a panel van Plus (which comes with a second row of seats on top of space for cargo), a Kombi (for passenger transport), and a double cab variant (with a platform body and a long wheelbase).
A Volkswagen Caravelle, complete with nine seats, will also be offered, while the PanAmericana, a variant with all-terrain design and exclusive equipment details will also be available.
A range of drive systems will also be offered for this new Transporter.
Diesel power will be available from engines offering a range from 109bhp to 168bhp. A 229bhp plug-in hybrid drivetrain will also be offered, while all-electric options will be available offering a range of output from 134bhp to 282bhp will be offered soon.
At the front, the Volkswagen Transporter now sports a push engine start button, while its dashboard now houses a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment display. The vehicle also now makes use of a switch to activate its handbrake instead of a traditional handbrake lever. Variants equipped with an automatic gearbox also now feature a space-saving gear selector lever on the steering column.
The Transporter also now gets large cup holders in the centre console, as well as additional cup holders and practical stowage compartments at the top of the dash panel.
