Inchcape+ and BYD celebrate 100 electric trucks milestone

The mention of a heavy-duty truck is likely to conjure up images of soot-covered, rumbling machines followed by piles of black smoke billowing out as they trundle past. All that, however, could slowly fade into history with the commemoration of an unprecedented milestone: An initial 100-unit order for the BYD T9R electric truck, placed by Inchcape Singapore's commercial sector-centred subsidiary, Inchcape+.
The two parties have heralded it as a milestone in sustainable mobility, and a demonstration of their joint commitment to the Singapore Green Plan 2030, under which the government aims for all of the nation's vehicles to run on cleaner energy.
The order also marks the largest single acquisition for an electric truck fleet in Singapore and was officially confirmed and celebrated at the opening of the Singapore International Transportation and Commercial Expo (SITCE) on 6 November 2024. The first deliveries of the trucks are estimated to commence in Q2 of 2025.
The BYD T9R, a zero-emission truck, is designed for waste management, construction transportation, and urban logistics.
It is equipped with BYD's latest-generation 301.7kWh Blade Battery, which offers a driving range of up to 320km alongside high safety standards. (Its range can also be maximised with regenerative braking, which additionally helps to protect its brakes.) Said battery can be recharged from 20-80% in just an hour when hooked up to the right DC charger.
BYD also states that the T9R stands apart from other trucks with its ability to offer drivers added comfort and convenience. The truck comes with a floating cab and ergonomically designed seats, which can help to absorb bumps. Meanwhile, its cabin also comes with a partially-digitalised instrument panel. Other modern creature comforts for the driver include a smart key and easy-access controls.
